DIY Wedding Earrings: Orchid Earrings Tutorials

Weddings are special occasions and it’s just appropriate to wear something special as well. Today, we’ll be teaching you DIY wedding earrings that you can easily create.

The Orchid Earrings is a design and tutorial created by Ulrike Gunther, an “ordinary” woman, wife and mother, who started beading in 2011 as a compensation for her job at the university. In addition to beading, tango dancing and trail riding are Ulrike’s hobbies. Often people ask her how high heels and riding boats go together. Well, according to Ulrike, they go together very well. The difference between urban elegance and romantic rustic is the spice and fun in life for Ulrike, she tries to show this in her jewelry. Read more…

“Orchid” are earrings of about 2 cm (0.8 inch). You need the following materials:

Round Pearls (RP6)

Crescent Beads (Cr) Mini-Drop Beads (DropB) Pip Beads (Pip)
Seed Beads (Roc11) Seed Beads (Roc15) Ear Wires Jump rings
Crescent Beads (Cr) have two holes. Therefore it is important to know which hole to go through. I refer to the Crescent Beads showing the curve on top.
Cr (R): Go through the right hole
Cr (L): Go through the left hole

Step 1
a) Take a thread of about 50 cm (ca. 19.7 inch) length and pick up 1 RP6 and 1 Cr (L). Leave a tail that you can hold and secure easily later on.

b) Go through the second hole of the Cr.

c) Pick up 1 Cr (L).

d) Go through the second hole of the Cr you just picked up and go further through the RP6 and through the Cr (L) of the first Cr from step 1b.

Step 2

a) Pick up 3 Roc15 and go through the second hole of the Cr.
b) Pick up 1 DropB and go through the next Cr. The DropB shows to the front side (see picture).

c) Pick up 3 Roc15 and go through the free/second hole of the Cr and the RP6.

d) Pick up 1 Roc15, 1 Roc11, 3 Pip, 1 Roc11 and 1 Roc15 and go through the RP6 again

e) Go further. The thread exits in a Roc11 in front of a Pip. Pick up 3 DropB, skip the Pips at the front side and go through the next Roc11 and Roc15.

Step 3

a) Go further (see picture). The thread exits in the last Roc15 of the three Roc15. Pick up 7  Roc11 and go through the three Roc15 on the other side.

b) Go further (see picture). The thread exits in the fourth/middle Roc11. Pick up 5 Roc11 and go through the Roc11 where the thread exits again. Go through the five newly picked up Roc11 again.

c) Go further one Roc11. Insert 1 Roc15 in between the Roc11 for 4 times.

d) Secure and trim your beadwork. Bead a second one. Fix your beadwork to ear wires (you might need to use jump rings).

Now, change the colors of the beads and voila! You’ll have the perfect wedding earrings!
