DIY Christmas Jewelry: Starry Night Earrings Bugle Beads Tutorial

Three days to go and it’s Christmas! Here’s a quick and easy bugle beads tutorial from Maria Arthur of TheBeadClubLounge.

Seed beads A Seed beads B Bugle beads C  Ear wires
Step 1.

Thread your needle with 18 inches of beading thread. Leaving a 4-inch tail, string 6A. Go back through all the beads exiting the first one strung. Pull the beads into a circle.

Step 2.

String 1B and pass through the following 1A.

Step 3.

Repeat Step 2 five more times then continue through the first 1B strung.

Step 4.

String 1C and 3A.

Step 5.

Go through the first 1A strung and pull the 3A snug against the 1C.

Note: The group of 3A will form a triangular shape with a bottom left, bottom right and top bead. This will become important later.

Step 6.

String 1C, 1A, 1C and 3A.

Step 7.

Go through the first 1A strung and pull the 3A snug against the last 1C.

Step 8.

String 1C and go through the 1B from the side opposite where you were exiting it in Step 3. This completes Unit 1.

Step 9.

Continue through the following 1A and 1B.

Step 10.

String 1C and 3A.

Step 11.

Go through the first 1A strung and pull the 3A snug against the last 1C.

Step 12.

String 1C, 1A and 1C. Go through the available bottom 1C in the closest group of 3C in Unit 1.

Step 13.

String 1C and go through the 1B from the side opposite where you were exiting it in Step 9. This completes Unit 2.

Step 14.

Repeat Steps 9-13 three more times to complete 5 Units total. After Unit 5, continue through the following 1A and 1B in the circle of beads.

Step 15.

String 1C and pass through the available bottom 1A of the group of 3A in Unit 1.

Step 16.

String 1C, 1A and 1C. Go through the available bottom 1A in the group of 3A in Unit 5.

Step 17.

To complete Unit 6, string 1C and go through the 1B from the side opposite where you were exiting it in Step 14.

Step 18.

Pass through the next 1C, 1A, 1C and 1A of Unit 6.

Step 19.

String 3A and go through the 1A from the side opposite where your thread is exciting. Reinforce the loop just added. Weave your thread into the beadwork and tie several half-hitch knots. Remove the excess thread. Repeat this with the tail thread to remove it.

Step 20.

Attach an earring hook to the loop. Repeat all the steps to complete another earring. Your earrings are now complete!
